Ryan Gosling To Join Johnny Depp In The Lone Ranger

2014 is a ways away but Disney is already putting together a cast for Gore Verbinski's The Lone Ranger. Johnny Depp already has the role of Tonto and now The Wrap tells us that Ryan Gosling may be The Lone Ranger. He's currently in talks and the only issue seems to be if he can fit it into his schedule which is becoming incredibly busy. He has the Logan's Run remake coming up, a possible role in Tales From The Gangster Squad and then a re-teaming with director Derek Cianfrance for The Place Beyond The Pines. So as you can see, he may not have time for the film.

2014 is a ways away but Disney is already putting together a cast for Gore Verbinski‘s The Lone Ranger. Johnny Depp already has the role of Tonto and now The Wrap tells us that Ryan Gosling may be The Lone Ranger. He’s currently in talks and the only issue seems to be if he can fit it into his schedule, which is becoming incredibly busy. He has the Logan’s Run remake coming up, a possible role in Tales From The Gangster Squad and then a re-teaming with director Derek Cianfrance for The Place Beyond The Pines. So as you can see, he has quite a lot on his plate.

Verbinski recently spoke about the film and said that:

The only version of ‘The Lone Ranger’ I’m interested in doing is ‘Don Quixote’ told from Sancho Panza’s point of view. And hence I was honest early on with Johnny that Tonto is the part. We’re not going to do it [straight], everyone knows that story. I don’t want to tell that story. I want the version from the untrustworthy narrator who might be a little crazy — but somehow the question is, is he crazy or is the world crazy? That, I find fascinating.”

Disney knows they could have a potential franchise on their hands and they’re clearly in no rush to get it off the ground. The film would probably begin shooting sometime in late 2012 and if that’s the case, Gosling may be free to do it. Seeing though as the film isn’t expected to be released until 2014, there’s still a lot of time to figure it all out.

As always, we’ll keep you posted.
