Though he’s done some decent work, Ryan Phillippe has had a bit of a tough time trying to find his footing in the acting world. Like I said, he’s done some alright work here and there but for the most part, he’s never really been much of a box office draw.
It looks like the actor has finally realized this as well and so, according to Variety, he’s now set to dive into the world of writing and directing, though he’s not done acting just yet.
Phillippe is set to make the horror/thriller film Shreveport. He’ll write, direct, produce and of course, star in the film. Though we don’t know too much about the plot just yet, we do know that Phillippe will take on the role of “a fading movie star who’s kidnapped and tortured whilst working on a film in the titular Louisiana town.”
Is this news all that exciting? Not particularly. I mean, Phillippe is fine but he’s not worth getting too excited over. That being said, it’s always interesting to see actors make the move from acting to writing/directing. I’m not expecting this to be anything special or notable, but I’ll probably check it out once it hits theatres, mostly just to see if Phillippe can pull a Ben Affleck and make the successful transition from actor to director.
