Ryan Reynolds is in early talks to star in Selfless, a new film from Tarsem Singh, the director behind Immortals, Mirror Mirror and The Fall. Set up at Endgame Entertainment and FilmDistrict, the Alex and David Pastor (Carriers) script follows a “rich old man who recently discovers that he’s dying. So in order to cheat death, he plays to have his mind transplanted into a younger man’s body, a cadaver whose “previous inhabitant” was murdered. Then the man finds himself being hunted by killers as he tries to figure out who killed him in the first place.”
We’ll be the first to admit that this concept sounds pretty interesting, and with a visionary director like Singh behind the camera, this could turn out to be a truly unique and exciting entry into the sci-fi genre. Reynolds is a solid leading man, too. His charm and charisma makes him an enjoyable screen presence and though most people tend to give him a hard time, I’m excited to see what he can do with this role.
As I’ve mentioned many times before, I love a good sci-fi flick, especially when there’s an original premise powering it. This one sounds like a real mind-bender and if executed properly, we might be in for something special. At the very least, we know that the film will be a visual treat with much eye candy to marvel over, as is the case with all of Singh’s films.
