Ryan Reynolds Is Heartbroken Over Chris Evans’ MCU Exit

Chris Evans took to Twitter earlier today to announce his exit from the MCU and the Captain America role, and Ryan Reynolds is heartbroken.

Though Captain America wasn’t given a whole lot to do during Infinity War, we already know that he’ll enjoy a much more prominent role (and potentially an intense arc?) during the course of Avengers 4.

This, coupled with those leaked set pics of the hero dressed in his Phase One attire, have fueled all sorts of debate online, as folks try to make sense of the upcoming sequel and its use of time travel. Surely it’s the only way Earth’s Mightiest Heroes can defeat Thanos? Who knows, but Chris Evans himself damn near broke the internet earlier today when he announced that he had completed his Avengers 4 reshoots.

Not only that, but he also added some further remarks which certainly make it sound as if his time in the role of Captain America is now at its end. In case you missed it, here’s how his Tweet read:

Officially wrapped on Avengers 4. It was an emotional day to say the least. Playing this role over the last 8 years has been an honor. To everyone in front of the camera, behind the camera, and in the audience, thank you for the memories! Eternally grateful.

Of course, the internet has reacted to this with shock and sadness, and now, Ryan Reynolds has spoken up on the matter. It seems as if the Merc with a Mouth is quite heartbroken over it, too, saying:

I’m not crying. I’m weeping. There’s a difference.

So are we Ryan, so are we.

In all seriousness, though, the Marvel Cinematic Universe simply won’t be the same without Captain America and Chris Evans. True, Bucky Barnes is expected to take up the mantle, or perhaps even the Falcon, but Steve Rogers will always be the one true Cap for many people and has led the franchise admirably – along with Iron Man – for close to a decade now.

Still, all good things must come to an end and so, on May 3rd, 2019, the MCU and fans all across the world will wave goodbye to the iconic hero when Avengers 4 crashes into theaters and brings Phase 3 of this wildly successful franchise to a close.
