This summer is about to get a whole lot more fast, furious and hilarious. And that’s because in two short months, Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham and Idris Elba will be bringing The Fast and the Furious franchise to a whole new level with Hobbs & Shaw.
But it seems there’ll be a few more stars packed into the film as well. If you’ll recall, it was recently reported that Keanu Reeves might be the one pulling the strings behind Elba’s villain, with the actor set to show up in a post-credits scene. And while that’s certainly exciting to learn, we’re now hearing of another big name actor who’s got a role in the movie.
We Got This Covered has been told by a trusted source that none other than Ryan Reynolds has boarded The Fast and the Furious franchise and will show up in Hobbs & Shaw. Apparently, he’ll play a CIA agent who has a bit of history with Hobbs and first recruits Johnson’s character to help him stop Elba’s supersoldier, who seems to have a slight grudge against humanity in the pic. Don’t they always, though?
Hobbs & Shaw already looks to be biggest, baddest and funniest entry into the franchise to date, and Reynolds will no doubt ramp all of that up even more. My only question is, will his character opt for a sword instead of a gun? After all, it worked for Johnson and his big stick in Walking Tall.
Sword or no sword, though, the hype for the upcoming spinoff is palpable, with Elba playing a self-proclaimed “black Superman,” Hobbs and Shaw looking to have terrific chemistry and set pieces that boast all the high intensity action that The Fast and the Furious franchise is known for.
How involved Reynolds will be, and if he’ll return for future films remains to be seen, but be sure to keep your eye out for him when Hobbs & Shaw speeds into theaters on August 2nd.
