After Safe House came up big at the box office earlier this year bringing in more than $200 million worldwide, it doesn’t come as much of a shock that Universal Pictures is throwing around the idea of a sequel.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio is bringing back David Guggenheim, who penned the original screenplay, hoping that he will strike movie magic again with a new script.
The original film starred Ryan Reynolds as a rookie CIA agent stuck babysitting a South African safe house. Just when things look hopelessly boring, he gets an unexpected guest in the form of rogue operative Tobin Frost (Denzel Washington), who decides to turn himself in after a decade on the run.
There is still no word whether Reynolds or Washington will return for Safe House 2 although it’s likely the studio will attempt to bring back at least one of the two, if not both.
Either way, we’ll keep you posted when we have more updates.
