Her early forays into the work of mid-90s Robert Rodriguez movies put Salma Hayek firmly on the Hollywood map. From her capable and fiery sidekick in Desperado right through to her voluptuous blood-sucking hell fiend in From Dusk Till Dawn, her inner badass has been teased for the best part of twenty years. Always relegated to the supporting roles previously, the actress now steps up to the plate to commandeer her own actioner in Joe Lynch’s Everly.
Lynch’s prior exploit – Knights Of Badassdom – failed to incur the warm reception it desired, but by the looks of it, the filmmaker isn’t dwelling on the past. In his upcoming revenge flick, Hayek plays hooker-turned-badass, Everly. Going up against her wiseguy boss by ratting him out to the police, he soon sets a price on her head that everyone in town is keen to snag. Everly’s fight or flight instinct finds her armed to the teeth as she begins killing the very men -and women- sent to kill her.
As stories go, it’s a by-the-numbers vengeance formula. However, the first international trailer highlights the possibility of it becoming more than the sum of its parts. Stuck in her apartment, Hayek shoots, stabs and maims her way through two minutes of carnage that’s a dazzling taster for the finished product.
I for one, will be lining up to see Everly when it hits theaters in 2015. Will you?
It’s Christmas time, but all is not well in the world of Everly (Salma Hayek). A call girl by trade, Everly has turned against her gangster boss Taiko (Hiroyuki Watanabe) and become a police informant. In response, Taiko has put out a hit on Everly and her family. Soon, every criminal in town wants to cash in. Everly’s survival instincts quickly kick in as she matches wits and firepower with Taiko and a seemingly endless stream of killers.
