Since Disney purchased Lucasfilm for a whopping $4 billion, every director and actor has taken their turn at sharing his or her thoughts on the next trilogy, and specifically Star Wars: Episode VII. The latest actor to speak out about the galaxy far, far away is Samuel L. Jackson and he’s not hiding how thrilled he is about the films.
For those of you who have completely blocked the prequel trilogy from your minds, Jackson played Mace Windu, a member of the Jedi council, and one of the most respected Jedi and skilled lightsaber fighters of all-time. Windu was killed, or so we were led to believe, at the end of Revenge Of The Sith when Anakin chopped off his arm, allowing the Emperor to use Force lightning to push Windu out the window and into the never-ending space below.
In a recent interview with E! News Jackson answered a few questions about the future of the Star Wars franchise. Check out what he had to say below.
“I’m not surprised but totally geeked by the idea of there being more Star Wars. It’s like, okay, Obi-Wan was dead when episode four started, so maybe everyone thinks I’m dead and we’ll find out what happened to Mace Windu. I can come back as one-armed or a one-handed Jedi that’s still around that didn’t actually die.”
So is Jackson saying he’d be willing to reprise his role?
“Hell yeah!… I could do that or be a ghost hologram. I don’t care. I just want to stay associated with the franchise. Not that I won’t because I’ve been in three of them.”
So did Windu really die? If so, maybe he’ll just join the long line of Jedi ghosts whispering in the ears of young Jedi. There’s obviously some major issues screenwriter Michael Arndt would have to work out to make this happen, and it’s pretty unlikely that Lucas’ plan will change based on what Jackson says, but you never know.
As awesome as Windu is, if one character is going to be brought back from the prequel trilogy, the best choice would have to be Darth Maul. He’s a huge fan favorite, and was incredible in the limited screen time he had. Talk about a character killed off far too early. If Maul doesn’t work out though, a one-armed Windu would be a pretty solid pick.
How would you like to see Jackson return? Or are the films better off if Windu stays dead? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
