Saoirse Ronan is gearing up for a big year. She has The Host opening next month and Byzantium and How I Live Now hitting theatres shortly after. She’s also signed on to lead Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel, which we’re very, very excited about. Now, Ronan can add one more film to her resume, Ryan Gosling’s How To Catch A Monster.
Ronan will star alongside Christina Hendricks, Ben Mendelsohn, Eva Mendes and Matt Smith and from what we know, the film is set to” weaves elements of fantasy noir, and suspense into a modern day fairytale.”
For those unfamiliar with the plot, it will center on Hendricks’ Billy, “a single mother of two, who is swept into a macabre and dark fantasy underworld while her teenage son discovers a secret road leading to an underwater town. Both Billy and Bones must dive deep into the mystery, if their family is to survive.”
No details have revealed about Ronan’s role just yet but with production getting underway this Spring, we should hear more soon. For now though, Gosling’s directorial debut is shaping up very nicely. He’s assembled an excellent cast and having worked with some of the industry’s best directors, we have no doubt that the first time filmmaker knows what he’s doing behind the camera.
As for Ronan, she’s quite the actress. I wouldn’t say that she has had her “breakout” performance just yet but I have really enjoyed her in films like Hanna and Atonement. She’s received much acclaim from critics but her appeal to the mainstream audience is probably still low, but that should change after The Host hits theatres.
