Over the weekend, news broke that Fury and The Longest Ride actor Scott Eastwood had joined the cast of David Ayer’s Suicide Squad film, but the specifics of his role had yet to be revealed. Now, thanks to Latino Review, that’s no longer the case. According to scoop guru El Mayimbe, Eastwood will cameo as none other than Wonder Woman love interest Steve Trevor.
In the comics, Steve Trevor is an intelligence officer for the United States Army, who crashes his plane on Paradise Island during World War II. There, he’s nursed back to health by Amazonian princess Diana, who falls in love with him and returns with him to the outside world, where she becomes Wonder Woman.
Over the years, Trevor became a bit of a play against type, as he was the one in distress who needed to constantly be rescued by Wonder Woman. In the New 52, Trevor is the United States’ liaison to Paradise Island, and tries convincing Suicide Squad and A.R.G.U.S. leader Amanda Waller that Diana and the Amazons don’t pose a threat to global security. My guess is that he has a similar role in Suicide Squad which will introduce the character into the DC Cinematic Universe, which will then be expanded in the 2017 Wonder Woman solo film.
Latino Review also confirms the suspicions that Raymond Olubowale, who joined the film this weekend along with Eastwood, will be playing King Shark via motion capture, and will have a minor part as a member of Waller’s security team.
Suicide Squad is slated to hit theaters on August 5th, 2016. Wonder Woman is next out the gate, as it hits theaters on June 23rd, 2017.
