“Because let’s face it, you’re either on this hype train by now, or the Winter Soldier using Rocket Raccoon as a side-arm won’t mean shit to you.”
And that, in a nutshell, sums up the Honest Trailer for Avengers: Infinity War. Of all the post-launch analyses to emerge – think How It Should Have Ended and all of the many spoiler-filled videos from Webhead – this is by far the most scathing, as it pokes fun at just about every aspect of Infinity War and its ridiculously huge cast. Hell, it even compares Thanos, a buff bald guy looking to expand his rock mineral collection, to Hank from Breaking Bad.
A particular highlight? Screen Junkies’ commentary goes on to note that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man would seemingly rather hitch a ride into space and die than cameo in Venom, which surely ranks up there among the best superhero jokes/burns we’ve heard in quite some time. Oh, and there’s also a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it reference to the whole James Gunn fiasco.
Feast thy eyes:
The erstwhile Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director was swiftly removed from his post late last month when a series of vulgar, insensitive tweets were uncovered from the archives. Gunn apologized (again), but it wasn’t enough to reverse Disney’s decision, and while Marvel Studios is said to be negotiating about a possible return – if not for Vol. 3, then another MCU project further down the line – Guardians 3 is still without a director, while the entire cosmic portion of Marvel’s franchise is in need of a new shepherd.
That’s how things stand at the moment, though we fully expect some sort of development in the coming weeks. Until then, Avengers: Infinity War is now available to enjoy on Blu-ray and DVD.
