When New Line’s It movie creeps into theaters in two months’ time, it’ll join the horror pantheon.
At least, that’s according to Joe Hill (son of the great Stephen King), who took part in a recent Q&A session to field all manner of questions about Andy Muschietti’s two-part adaptation. It’s not your typical book-to-screen translation, given how Muschietti plans to release a sequel in the not-so-distant future to revisit the Losers Club 30 years after the fact, when they decide to bring an end to Pennywise’s reign of terror once and for all. It’s an ambitious, somewhat unconventional spin on a novel many consider to be among King’s best, so with that in mind, consider us on board.
Stick a pin in that one for now, because with SDCC getting underway in San Diego, New Line is in attendance to promote its forthcoming It movie in all of its spine-chilling glory. Below you’ll find a suitably creepy new one sheet featuring the Losers Club and their worst nightmare: Pennywise the Clown, an otherworldly demon who dwells deep beneath the town of Derry, Maine. But don’t worry, you’ll float too…
When it comes to It‘s scare factor, Andy Muschietti has already gone on record to say that his big-screen rendition is a no-holds-barred adaptation of the King classic, and that’s something that the author’s son, Joe Hill, echoed during that aforementioned Q&A session. In fact, Hill even went so far as to say that It ranks among the top five scariest movies ever made, and will join the likes of Jaws and The Exorcist in two months’ time. High praise indeed.
Andres’ adaptation of IT is one of the 5 scariest films ever made. It’s tremendously humane. You love the characters in it. But it is just relentlessly terrifying. Only Jaws, The Exorcist, John Carpenter’s The Thing and Let the Right One In are scarier. It’s that good. It’s that brilliant.
Casting-wise, New Line has gathered together the likes of Sophia Lillis, Jaeden Lieberher, Finn Wolfhard, Jack Dylan Grazer, Wyatt Oleff, Chosen Jacobs and Jeremy Ray Taylor. Javier Botet will play The Leper, and Nicholas Hamilton plays Henry Bowers. The cast also includes Owen Teague, who plays bully Patrick Hocksetter.
It Part 1 – The Losers Club stalks theatres on September 8th.
