Part of Square Enix’s masterplan to fire Final Fantasy XV to international success in September is the release of a cutting-edge CG movie entitled Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV.
Set for release across Blu-ray and digital platforms, the big-budget action movie will chart the war-torn kingdom of Lucis – FFXV‘s primary setting – serving up a visually stunning primer for the event of Square’s long-in-development JRPG.
Among the western stars set to feature in the spinoff, the likes of Sean Bean, Aaron Paul and Game of Thrones stalwart Lena Headey can be glimpsed in the gallery above, via Kotaku. Meanwhile, here’s a synopsis for Kingsglaive to get you up to speed on all things Final Fantasy XV.
The magical kingdom of Lucis is home to the world’s last remaining Crystal, and the menacing empire of Niflheim is determined to steal it. King Regis of Lucis commands an elite force of soldiers called the Kingsglaive. Wielding their king’s magic, they fight to protect Lucis. As the overwhelming military might of the empire bears down, King Regis is faced with an impossible ultimatum – to marry his son, Prince Noctis to Princess Lunafreya of Tenebrae, captive of Niflheim, and surrender his lands to Niflheim rule. Although the king concedes, it becomes clear that the empire will stop at nothing to achieve their devious goals, with only the Kingsglaive standing between them and world domination.
Kingsglaive will debut in Japanese theaters on July 9, before making its way west later in the year. Final Fantasy XV, on the other hand, is penciled in for a worldwide release on September 30, and just yesterday Game Director Hajime Tabata touched base on the JRPG’s prolonged development cycle.
