Three weeks; that’s all that’s remaining between now and the release of Christopher Nolan’s hotly-anticipated sci-fi flick, Interstellar. We’ve been treated with trailer after trailer for the film, and for those of you that like to abstain from marketing material in order to go into the theater with a clean slate, you’ll be pleased to know that more than one hour of Interstellar was filmed on IMAX.

Getting back to the topic at hand, though, and Entertainment Weekly has published an extensive spread on Nolan’s latest, showcasing some behind-the-scenes stills from the set.

Speaking with the magazine, lead actor Matthew McConaughey — who plays Joesph Cooper in the film — also hinted that Nolan’s latest work harbours an emotional core and is, perhaps, his most inspiring work to date:

“Nobody is able to put more scope, scale, awe on screen than Chris. But I think he was wanting to take the next step, toward something more intimate. It was an evolution.”

In case you haven’t caught wind of Interstellar’s plot, the movie take place in the not-so-distant future, where overpopulation and climate change has pushed our humble planet Earth to the brink. Ravaged by food shortages and blinding dust storms, world leaders have no choice but to spearhead a galactic mission in search of a new suitable home.

Honing inspiration from Kubrick’s seminal 2001, The Right Stuff and even McConaughey’s previous dabble with space exploration, Contact, Interstellar will see the crew of the Endurance venture out into the far reaches of our galaxy via a wormhole — bending the fabric of space-time in the process.

Interstellar will release in cinemas and IMAX theaters on November 7th, 2014. To whet your appetite for Nolan’s cerebral sci-fi, you can feast your eyes on some of the recently-released stills below.
