Ryan Gosling is hard at work on his directorial debut, How To Catch A Monster. He’s assembled quite the cast for it, too. Starring will be Mad Men‘s Christina Hendricks and she’ll be supported by Matt Smith, the current Time Lord on Doctor Who, Ben Mendelsohn, Eva Mendes, Saoirse Ronan and Rob Zabrecky. Today, a set photo from the film was posted online and it shows Gosling with Smith, who has shaved off his hair for the film. You can check it out below.
How To Catch A Monster is said to “weave elements of fantasy noir, and suspense into a modern day fairytale. It’s “set against the surreal dreamscape of a vanishing city” and will follow Hendricks’ Billy, “a single mother of two who is swept into a macabre and dark fantasy underworld while her teenage son discovers a secret road leading to an underwater town.”
In further news relating to Gosling’s first effort behind the camera, Deadline is reporting that Warner Bros. have secured the U.S. rights to the film for $3 million dollars. Considering that this is Gosling’s first film as a director, finding a major studio to house the project is pretty impressive. Then again, this is Ryan Gosling we’re talking about.
All things considered, I’d say that Gosling’s directorial debut will be a big hit. He’s got a tremendous cast, an interesting premise and again, this is Ryan Gosling we’re talking about. The man can do no wrong. Ok, fine, he did make Gangster Squad. Maybe that was a bit wrong. But we’ll forgive him.
What do you think of How To Catch A Monster so far? Do you think it’s going to be a successful directorial debut for the young actor?
