In 1975, Jaws made moviegoers afraid to go in the water. Then, in 2013, Sharknado came along and probably forced a small percentage of people to fear the outdoors as a whole, lest a rogue shark actually slaughter them on their front lawn.
In the time since, four sequels have followed suit, each upping the level of absurdity and featuring a boatload of unexpected celebrity cameos, with everyone from weatherman extraordinaire Al Roker to Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor appearing in small roles. And when factoring all that in, it leaves little room to wonder why this franchise has become the crown jewel in the SyFy network’s proud line of original B-movies, the likes of which have included gems such as Sharktopus and the timeless classic Mega Croc vs. Gatoroid.
But as long as people keep tuning in, the sequels will keep on coming – though not always on time.
Previously, it’d been announced that the next installment would be arriving on July 25, but the premiere has since been bumped to August 19 at 8 pm EST. Having been an annual tradition for SyFy over the course of the last handful of years, one can only assume they hadn’t planned on the delay.
As of now, no reason has been given for the month-long push, but our best guess it that the film may need a little more time for post-production. After all, those CGI sharks aren’t going to render themselves, and there’s also the fact we’ve yet to see a trailer – or to learn the movie’s subtitle, for that matter.
