Will Solo: A Star Wars Story do right by Lando Calrissian?
Leading up to May 2018, that was undoubtedly one of the more pressing questions lingering over Lucasfilm’s prized franchise, as Star Wars enthusiasts began to wonder whether Solo‘s script would do justice to the galaxy’s ice-cool smuggler.
Those fears were only exacerbated when it was announced that erstwhile directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller were fired by Lucasfilm, seemingly due to a combination of creative differences and the duo’s, er, unique approach to the material. Still, when D-day arrived, and Solo zoomed into theaters, any echoes of doubt were quickly silenced by Donald Glover’s incredible performance.
And if you’re wanting a little more Lando in your life now that Solo: A Star Wars Story is available on digital, we’ve got you covered thanks to this incredible gallery of concept art.
Whether it’s the bright, fluorescent attire or those iconic capes, this artwork only serves as a timely reminder that Solo: A Star Wars Story (and Donald Glover!) nailed its version of the young Lando, who waltzed into frame as the rightful owner of the Millennium Falcon – only to lose the Corellian freighter to his soon-to-be ally Han Solo in a high-stakes game of Sabaac. Alden Ehrenreich’s cocksure smuggler still features here, of course, and can be seen standing next to his future co-pilot Chewbacca.
On a more general note, it seems watching Solo for the second time yields a better understanding of Han’s plight, and Qi’ra’s own mission to solve it, though it seems there is now little-to-no hope for that mooted sequel.
Already available on digital, expect Solo: A Star Wars Story to make the jump to lightspeed Blu-ray and DVD next Tuesday, September 25th.
