Now, thanks to /Film, we are getting word that Sony has announced a new attempt to adapt the series into a movie, this time with Spider-Man producer Avi Arad.

The news was delivered at a Metal Gear Solid anniversary event in Tokyo and was announced by none other than series creator Hideo Kojima, who will be serving as executive producer on the project. Arad was also in attendance and told the audience that “[we] will take our time and tell the story with all the nuances, ideology, [and] cautionary tales needed.”

For those of you unfamiliar with the games, Metal Gear Solid began in 1998 as an off-shot of the original 1987 Metal Gear. The original game has you playing as “Solid Snake, a retired soldier who infiltrates a nuclear weapons disposal facility to neutralize the terrorist threat from FOXHOUND, a renegade special forces unit.”

As a big fan of the games, I find this to be very exciting news. It has the potential to be something really special, that is, if they really do take there time with it. Each of these games has a really intricate story, so hopefully they’ll be able to come up with something really good, especially since they have Kojima on board.

No director or writer has been announced yet, but I think most people will agree with me when I say that Kojima should be allowed to guide the story wherever he sees fit.

As usual, we will keep you updated as more details are announced.
