According to The Hollywood Reporter, Steven Spielberg has been meeting with screenwriter Mark Protosevich (Thor) to discuss the possibility of rebooting the Jurassic Park franchise. Representatives for Spielberg and Universal Pictures have said that no writer has been hired and that the talks are “purely exploratory.” There’s also been no indication whether a fourth film in the series would be a sequel to 2001’s Jurassic Park III or a complete reboot of the trilogy.
The first installment in the series was the most successful film financially for Spielberg, who directed the first two films in the trilogy and was an executive producer on the third, however its sequels didn’t match up to the original. They weren’t necessarily bad films, just not as good as the original.
Let’s be clear about one thing though, this is not a done deal nor is it the first time that a Jurassic Park 4 has been in discussion. Every so often rumors crop up that another film in the series is on its way and they’re quickly dismissed. Once upon a time a fourth film in the franchise was said to be dealing with the military using dinosaurs as weapons in a kind of prehistoric hit squad. Thank god that never turned into anything.
However, this is the first time that I can recall Spielberg actually meeting with someone to discuss it so there could be hope.
What do you think? Will we get to see another Jurassic Park?
