The Marvel franchise has a famously passionate fanbase, but even some of the biggest MCU enthusiasts may wince a little when they hear how much one eBay user has just spent on two Avengers: Endgame tickets.
As previously reported, a pair of tickets for the Avengers: Infinity War sequel were recently listed on eBay for $2,500. These two seats were for an opening night screening at an AMC theater in West Orange, New Jersey, and while two-and-a-half grand may sound like an insane amount to spend on the event, it seems that someone has now used the Buy It Now feature to purchase the tickets for a staggering $15,000.
We’ll leave it to you to judge whether this is money well spent or fandom gone too far, but for those who don’t have fifteen grand to burn on a single screening, it’s not like Disney will be in a hurry to pull Endgame out of theaters after opening night. Indeed, Marvel’s Phase 3 finale seems very much on course to beat a few commercial records in the next couple of months, and the latest box office projections largely reflect this. While some analysts have forecast a domestic debut in the $200-$250 million range, Deadline recently suggested that the movie has a good chance of surpassing $260 million, and may even near the $300 million mark.
No doubt these estimates were boosted in part by the film’s phenomenal pre-sales from the past week. On Fandango, for instance, Anthony and Joe Russo’s upcoming flick beat the 24-hour pre-sales record held by Star Wars: The Force Awakens in just six hours. Evidently, eBay ticket-sellers aren’t the only ones who’ll be making money off Avengers: Endgame, but you can decide for yourself if the movie is worth all its success when it arrives in theaters on April 26th.
