One thing I’ve heard quite frequently since Avengers: Endgame hit theaters are the words, “Finally! We can stop being bombarded by superheroes!” Marvel Studios’ response to those not-so-fans? Hold my beer.
Spider-Man: Far From Home is less than two months away from swinging into cinemas and we’re here to tell you that there’ll be no halt to the superhero talk. Not for a long, long time.
The trailer for the film has left Spidey fans a little confused, though. We’re stoked that Mysterio is getting the big screen treatment, but isn’t he…bad? The master of illusion, played by Jake Gyllenhaal, has always been a supervillain, specifically to the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. The previews, however, are always showing him and Parker shaking hands and battling alongside one another.
So, what gives? Well, it looks like the recent release of the official Mysterio figurine may have just solved the mystery. Down in the gallery below you’ll see photos of a number of Far From Home toys, with the description for the Mysterio one telling us that he’s a “a master of illusion and a sworn enemy of Spider-Man.” It doesn’t get much clearer than that, does it now?
Like every other good movie studio, however, Marvel loves throwing its fans curveballs (how about them Skrulls?). If the toy above has anything to say about it though, Peter Parker better get ready to pull one massive knife out of his back.
Along with possibly of battling Quentin Beck, aka Mysterio, in Far From Home, Spider-Man will have his hands full once again as Molten Man and other out of this world, element-based creatures wreak havoc on the planet while Peter’s on vacation with his friends.
Will Gyllenhaal’s character prove to be an ally or foe for Parker, though? We’ll find out when Spider-Man: Far From Home hits theaters July 2nd with a massive opening weekend.
