Spider-Man: Far From Home star Tom Holland is known for his accidental spoilers, and sure enough, the very existence of his next standalone project in the MCU serves as a pretty big reveal on the events of next year’s Avengers 4.
Admittedly, it’s a development that most of us could’ve worked out for ourselves, but while the recent Avengers: Infinity War left a lot of viewers shaken with Peter Parker’s emotional death scene, the character’s upcoming solo effort makes it pretty clear that we haven’t seen the last of the young Spidey. What’s more, with Nick Fury and Maria Hill making appearances in the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming, it seems apparent that Holland’s character won’t be the only one to come back from the grave.
While these revelations have led some to speculate that Far From Home will actually be a prequel to Infinity War – making the deaths in the latter film a little more ‘real’ – MCU Cosmic points out that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has more or less refuted this theory already.
Back in April of this year, Feige spoke of Spidey’s next solo film as a continuation of Peter’s story in Avengers 4.
“What is it like to try to go back to a normal life after what happens in this movie [Infinity War]? Not to mention what happens in the next [Avengers] movie.”
Feige continues:
“It’s fun to see that, because he can represent, you know, the world as a whole, as they try to move forward,” Feige said. “And you can do it in a way that is tonally unique, and tonally different than, certainly, the two Avengers films that people are about to see.”
What’s more, MCU Cosmic draws on a quote from producer Amy Pascal as further evidence that Far From Home picks up where the next Avengers leaves off.
“What I think we should focus on is this Spider-Man who started in Civil War and then has this movie, and then will be in the Avengers movie. And we are starting now the next one which will start a few minutes after Avengers 4 wraps as a story.”
Assuming this isn’t all some spoiler-conscious ruse even sneakier than Marvel’s fake scripts, it seems highly likely that Spider-Man: Far From Home won’t be a jump back in the timeline. You can find out for sure though when the movie comes out on July 5th, 2019, But first, look out for Avengers 4 on May 3rd if you’re keen to see how the MCU plans on bringing Peter back into the fight.
