A femme fatale villain making her way into Marvel’s Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel? Don’t count on it, after Kevin Feige set the record straight during a recent interview with Screen Rant.
Currently in the midst of press junkets for Avengers: Infinity War (out today; our review), the Marvel Studios boss ran the gamut, discussing everything from Josh Brolin’s Mad Titan to Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Details are scarce at the moment, but we know Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 will be pretty instrumental in establishing the parameters of the MCU post-Avengers 4 – ditto for the “freaking amazing” Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 – so it’s small wonder why Peter Parker’s next solo adventure has garnered so much attention even at this early, early stage.
But as is so often the case, when dealing with a geek-friendly Hollywood tentpole, it’s important to separate the wheat from the chaff – the fact from the fiction – and that’s exactly what Kevin Feige did when he sat down for an interview with Screen Rant.
And so, when Homecoming 2‘s latest rumors regarding a femme fatale being involved came up in conversation, the studio executive and all-around MCU architect responded as so:
No, that was, uh, that, that was a misleading minor casting search. None of those rumors are true at all.
Short and sweet, then, but this is pretty conclusive evidence that Homecoming 2 won’t feature a femme fatale-esque baddie when it swings into theaters next summer. It will, however, send Peter Parker on a globe-trotting journey as he continues to cement his status as the MCU’s most exciting new hero.
Directed by Jon Watts and heralding the return of Tom Holland as the beloved Web-Head, Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 will see a release on July 5th, 2019 – two short months after the release of Avengers 4.
