While Spider-Man: Far From Home is scheduled to be the final entry in Marvel’s Phase 3, it also serves as the start of a new era for the MCU, now that Avengers: Endgame has brought the Infinity Saga to a close.

In that sense, the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel may prove crucial in helping us to understand just how the Marvel universe has changed in the wake of last week’s release. And if a recent report from MCU Cosmic is anything to go by, then things are about to get complicated.

Be warned that spoilers for Avengers: Endgame, and possibly Spider-Man: Far From Home, lie ahead.

In both Endgame and 2016’s Doctor Strange, we get multiple hints that messing with the fabric of time can have world-changing consequences. Nonetheless, in the Avengers: Infinity War sequel, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes do a whole lot of meddling, leading to the creation of various alternate timelines.

With that in mind, we turn to this new rumor relayed by Jeremy Conrad. Apparently, in the upcoming Far From Home, there may be a scene where Nick Fury introduces Mysterio to Peter Parker, and says that Jake Gyllenhaal’s character is from a different Earth – i.e. an Earth from an alternate reality.

Now, Quentin Beck is a villain who’s known for his deceptive ways, but at the very least, the idea of a character visiting Peter from an alternate timeline seems pretty believable after the events of Endgame. Meanwhile, the comics have long featured multiple universes, freeing the writers up to tell all kinds of crazy stories without having to worry so much about issues of continuity.

Could Marvel Studios be opening up the franchise in a similar manner? Are we witnessing the start of the Marvel Cinematic Multiverse? Perhaps, but hopefully we’ll get some clarification on the matter when Spider-Man: Far From Home hits theaters on July 2nd.
