Heath Ledger would have turned 38 today had he still been with us, and to celebrate the occasion, Spike TV and Network Entertainment have debuted the very first trailer for I Am Heath Ledger, an upcoming documentary directed by Derik Murray which aims to bring us an intimate look inside the actor’s life.
Set to premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 23rd before hitting theatres on May 3rd and finally, Spike TV on May 17th, the emotional preview features interviews with many of Heath’s peers and colleagues, who all paint a picture of a truly incredible man, offering up a bit of insight into what made him such an exciting and talented performer. Mixed in with that is footage of Ledger from home videos and the like, giving us a more personal look at the promising young star who left us far too early.
“He wanted fame, and then when he got it, he didn’t want it,” filmmaker Matt Amato says.
I Am Heath Ledger appears to be a heartfelt tribute to the actor and one which we’re definitely looking forward to seeing when it premieres later this year. As far as documentaries go, it does seem to be fairly routine, but Ledger is a fascinating subject and it looks like the filmmakers have secured a lot of never before seen footage of him. That, mixed with the testimonials from his friends and family, will no doubt make for a compelling, and haunting watch.
