Which Marvel hero has appeared in more movies than any of the Avengers or the X-Men? That’s right, it’s the one and only Stan Lee, who’s been a fixture of every Marvel production for the past two decades. Be it made by Disney, Fox or Sony, Lee is always welcome to turn up for a cameo in the latest film based on the comics franchise that he helped build, and each and every time he appears it’s a real treat.
But, with more Marvel efforts (ergo: more Lee cameos) coming out all the time, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to keep track of all his many appearances. Thankfully, then, this new supercut has got us covered. Reaching all the way back to Lee’s inaugural cameo in 1989’s TV movie The Trial of the Incredible Hulk and all the way up to his turn in Spider-Man: Homecoming, it’s a great look at the comic book legend’s many memorable moments across screens both big and small.
Watching this, it’s interesting to see the different forms Lee’s cameos have taken. Sometimes, he’s just an insignificant background extra, while other times he offers a quick line of comic relief and occasionally, he’ll even be used to add a bit of drama (such as his cameo in X-Men: Apocalypse). In recent years, however, it’s clear that Lee’s roles have become more tongue-in-cheek – culminating in his Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 spot that revealed all of his MCU characters are one and the same.
Despite how incredibly extensive the supercut is, though, it’s unfortunately already out of date. Since his appearance in Homecoming, Lee has turned up in three more Marvel productions. As well as his part as a Sakaaran hairdresser in Thor: Ragnarok, the legend has appeared in both The Gifted and Runaways, as well. In the former, Lee was in the pilot episode as a guy walking out of a bar frequented by mutants and in the latter, the Marvel legend starred in episode 5 as a limo cab driver who took the kids to the Pride’s gala.
Stan Lee will next appear in Black Panther, arriving in cinemas on February 16th.
