There’s a reason why flashbacks so often feature in Star Wars: Episode IX hearsay, in that they give the rumor mill license to spin whatever fan fiction it wants without having to fit the alleged scenes into the context of the current story (see also: vision sequences). Still, after flashbacks proved such a prominent part of The Last Jedi, we certainly can’t rule out J.J. Abrams’ upcoming film delving into the past, and though this new Reddit report from JediPaxis remains unverified, the content it suggests is at least more plausible than most leaks.
As you likely know, Episode IX will see Mark Hamill reprise his role as Luke Skywalker, and seeing how the character met his end in The Last Jedi, appearing in flashback or as a Force Ghost seem like his only two credible options. What’s more, the late Carrie Fisher is also set to return as Leia Organa by way of unused footage from the filming of The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.
With that in mind, we turn to this new post, which allegedly relays word from “a trusted source” that the two siblings will appear in multiple flashbacks together, one of which sees Leia being trained or discussing Jedi training with Luke. Despite previous rumors, the report also adds that their source has heard nothing about Han Solo appearing in these flashbacks
Obviously, it’s best not to take these claims too seriously for the time being, but if Abrams is really looking to wrap up the whole Skywalker Saga, then at least one more scene between Luke and Leia seems highly appropriate. What’s more, after Leia’s use of the Force in The Last Jedi drew the ire of some fans, it’s not unthinkable that this next film may offer a little context to her abilities with a scene of Fisher’s character learning a trick or two.
Regardless, we’ll find out if there’s any truth to the report when Star Wars: Episode IX hits theaters on December 20th, 2019.
