After Avengers: Endgame has finally completed its journey to theaters later this month, the next biggest blockbuster on the horizon will be Star Wars: Episode IX. Like the Avengers: Infinity War sequel, J.J. Abrams’ upcoming flick is an era-closing work that’s shrouded in secrecy. And if recent hearsay is anything to go by, then Lucasfilm could soon be replicating Endgame’s marketing for Episode IX’s two imminent reveals.
We’re specifically referring to the film’s official title and first trailer. Though it’s generally the tradition to reveal the former before the latter, Endgame went a slightly different route, and unveiled the title right at the end of last December’s teaser. As you may recall, the online trailer didn’t even mention the official subtitle in the video title, making it a pleasant surprise for fans who watched the preview.
According to the Express, Episode IX may also kill two birds with one stone, and unveil the title during the teaser. And while this claim has yet to be confirmed, it certainly seems plausible at this point in time. After all, it’s now widely assumed that the film’s first footage will be screened at next week’s Star Wars Celebration – most likely during the movie’s panel on April 12th. If so, then Lucasfilm now has less than a week to drop the title beforehand.
At the same time, there’s also been speculation that Disney will want to reveal the title before Celebration, so that the event can sell merchandise that bears the name. Either way, it’s looking very likely that we’ll be calling Star Wars: Episode IX by its proper title this time next week, though we still have a good few months to wait before the film hits theaters on December 20th, 2019.
