Speculation as to when Star Wars: Episode VII will release has come to a screeching halt today as Disney has just announced that the film will touch down on December 18th, 2015. Mark your calendars, folks!
Unfortunately, we did not receive an official title with the release date announcement. In fact, we didn’t receive any additional information at all, just that December date.
“We’re very excited to share the official 2015 release date for Star Wars: Episode VII, where it will not only anchor the popular holiday filmgoing season but also ensure our extraordinary filmmaking team has the time needed to deliver a sensational picture,” said Disney chairman Alan Horn.
Though Star Wars films have traditionally released in the summer, pushing this one to the holiday season is a smart move. The summer of 2015 is absolutely jam packed with blockbusters releases. Moving Star Wars: Episode VII to the winter will not only give it more time to breathe but it will also make the lives of movie bloggers everywhere a lot easier. So on behalf of all of us, thank you Disney, you have no idea how much we appreciate this.
Production is set to begin on Star Wars: Episode VII in the spring of 2014, which means we should expect casting and plot details to emerge early next year. Until then, remember to save the date and pray that this entry turns out better than the last three did.
