The still untitled Star Wars: Episode VIII is now officially halfway through its shoot, and to mark the occasion, director Rian Johnson has posted a couple of black and white behind-the-scenes snaps from the set to his Tumblr page.
Johnson had previously shared a similarly stylish image of the returning Maz Kanata (Lupita Nyong’o), and though these don’t seem to feature any of the main characters, they should still be off interest to fans.
The first image shows off a Resistance pilot in his X-Wing as a crew member gives the window a wipe (not a whole lot of note there), but the second one gives us a look at what we assume is a member of the First Order, wearing a new type of uniform. The helmet is quite similar to the ones worn by the Death Star gunners way back in A New Hope, but they have never featured prominently in the saga.
Here’s the caption that accompanies the pics, as Johnson paraphrases a line from Bruce Campbell in Army of Darkness.
Good. Bad. I’m the guy with the microfiber sham.’ I can’t believe we’re halfway through the shoot. (We’re halfway through the shoot!)
Star Wars: Episode VIII hits theaters on December 17th, 2017.
