Brace yourselves, because according to /Film, the teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens will reportedly debut in front of The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies. The site alleges that the rumour originated from multiple sources which seemingly confirm the news. Up first was a Tweet from a fan who learned the news from first assistant director Thomas Gormley, followed by another who heard it from a theatre owner.
Ever since the world learned the official subtitle for the seventh Star Wars outing, the Internet has exploded. In fact, let me take that back. It exploded… a bit more. The truth is, rumours, speculation, apparent plot synopses and mysterious cameos have been clogging up the blogosphere for nearly two years now. So today’s latest tidbit ought to be taken with a heaping spoon of salt – or should it? The rumour mill was fully cranked up by the end of October with the news that a preview was headed our way before the year’s end. Then yesterday we caught wind from another site revealing a full description for the trailer, which that also said we’d see it before 2015.
At this point, until there’s an official confirmation from Disney, it’s impossible to know whether or not this is reliable information. The prospect of bolstering ticket sales for the third Hobbit instalment will be enticing for Warner Bros., though. Tacking on a long-awaited trailer such as this is guaranteed to increase takings. But then again, didn’t we just hear a rumour about the teaser for Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice ALSO landing with The Hobbit? It’s difficult to imagine Warner giving precedent to another studio’s trailer over their own, but maybe BvS‘s trailer isn’t even ready yet. Either way, we’ll find out for sure when The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies charges into cinemas on December 17th, 2015.
