Star Wars: Harrison Ford “Didn’t Give A Rat’s Ass” About Passing The Torch

Via The New York Times, Harrison Ford conceded that he didn't give much thought to passing the Star Wars torch over to the next generation.

Harrison Ford isn’t one to indulge in sentimentality.

Even now, at 75 years young, Ford is a wry, cocksure curmudgeon. It’s part of his shtick, really, which made it all the more surprising that he agreed to reprise as professional con-man Han Solo for The Force Awakens. Truth be told, his triumphant return to the Star Wars franchise was short and sweet, given his character was cut down by his estranged son, Ben Solo (AKA Kylo Ren), during the finale on Starkiller Base.

And with that, Han Solo’s saga came to an end. However, even when looking back with the benefit of hindsight, Harrison Ford has no hard feelings about his Star Wars exit, after admitting to the New York Times that he “couldn’t give a rat’s ass” about passing over the torch to the next generation.

I don’t know that I thought of it that way at all. I was there to die. And I didn’t really give a rat’s ass who got my sword.

That generation largely centers on Rey (Daisy Ridley), Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) and John Boyega’s Finn, who ditched life as a Stormtrooper in order to join the Resistance. We know that the latter forged a warm friendship with Ford while filming Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and while promoting his role in the blockbuster sequel Pacific Rim: Uprising, Boyega told NYT that he still enjoys poking fun at Harrison Ford from time to time:

Harrison was just like, ‘See that, kid? I’m the star’. And I said to him, ‘Yeah, mate, you ain’t going to be the star when you get stabbed by Kylo Ren.’

In other Star Wars news, EW has now blown the lid off The Last Jedi‘s deleted scenes in anticipation of the sequel’s Blu-ray release later this month. And after that? Solo: A Star Wars Story will help cast light on the smuggler’s galactic origins on May 25th.
