You can go ahead and add Justin Theroux’s name to the growing list of big-name cameos in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
At least, that’s according to a now-pulled report from Making Star Wars. In it, Theroux was linked to the role of an unnamed “expert slicer” who will enjoy a “pivotal moment” in Rian Johnson’s blockbuster sequel. What’s a slicer, exactly? They’re the computer hackers of the Star Wars universe – tech-savvy operators that specialize in the digital world. Exactly how Justin Theroux’s character factors into the story, though, is up for question, which isn’t all that surprising when you consider just how close Disney has been playing its cards close to the chest. The Star Wars faithful are well used to secrecy, after all.
Either way, Justin Theroux isn’t the only big-name star to lock down a cameo role in Star Wars: The Last Jedi; there’s also Mad Max: Fury Road and Taboo star Tom Hardy, while we recently confirmed that Gary Barlow and princes William and Harry of England are expected to cameo. Much like Daniel Craig before them, the latter two are expected to don Stormtrooper outfits for their minor roles.
The Last Jedi‘s ensemble cast isn’t the only element of Rian Johnson’s sci-fi sequel that’s made the headlines recently, after a separate report from Making Star Wars unearthed details regarding the First Order Heavy Assault Walker – a ground-based vehicle far superior to the All Terrain Armored Transport (AT-ATs) glimpsed across the original trilogy and, of course, Gareth Edwards’ Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi shoots for theaters on December 15th of this year. Nipping at its heels are two very different Star Wars movies: Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s Han Solo origin tale and Episode IX, the next chapter in the Skywalker saga to be helmed by Colin Trevorrow.
