Have Disney and Lucasfilm chosen October 9th to be the day in which they unveil the full-length trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi? Mark Hamill certainly thinks so – or at least, he did, before pulling his Tweet offline.
First spotted by Heroic Hollywood, the Star Wars mainstay, who would so often maintain a relatively open dialogue with the franchise’s impassioned community, responded to one curious fan via Twitter. The user, like so many others before him, pressed Hamill about the status of The Last Jedi‘s new trailer, to which the Luke Skywalker actor replied: “Watch Monday Night Football on Monday, October 9th – for no reason in particular.” Cue the speculation.
That candid Tweet from Hamill has since been deleted, but not before Digital Spy managed to grab a screenshot (see below). The Internet is written in ink, after all. Granted, the actor has since gone on record to seemingly set the record straight, writing that, “Disney will announce when they are ready,” followed by the hashtag ‘#WaitForVIIITrailer’. A faux pas, perhaps? Or is the Star Wars fanbase merely grasping at straws as the wait for The Last Jedi‘s full trailer becomes unbearable?
It’s impossible to know for sure, but one thing worth keeping in mind is the fact that, two years ago, Lucasfilm aired the final domestic trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens during MNF. So perhaps this is a case of history repeating itself? The jury’s still out on that one. Even still, with less than three months to go until the big day, we imagine Lucasfilm and Disney will launch said trailer at some point in October, even if Hamill’s assertions were a little off base.
Per Digital Spy:
One thing’s for sure: Star Wars: The Last Jedi has been penciled in for a release on December 15th. Its untitled sequel, meanwhile, Episode IX, has since found a new director (J.J. Abrams) and release date (December 20th, 2019), placing it right alongside Warner’s Wonder Woman 2.
