Steven Spielberg Won’t Direct Jurassic Park 4

Steven Spielberg is obviously a busy man, currently promoting both War Horse and The Adventures of Tintin, and let's not forget the upcoming films he's working on, like Lincoln. Therefore - it's not much of a surprise that in a recent interview with Collider, he confirmed that he will sadly not be directing Jurassic Park 4. Instead, he will be producing it.

Steven Spielberg is obviously a busy man, currently promoting both War Horse and The Adventures of Tintin, and let’s not forget the upcoming films he’s working on, like Lincoln. Therefore – it’s not much of a surprise that in a recent interview with Collider, he confirmed that he will sadly not be directing Jurassic Park 4. Instead, he will be producing it.

In the interview, Spielberg said:

I don’t want to talk about Jurassic Park 4 yet – it’s too early – but I can tell you that I’m not directing it. I’m producing it though.

This news helps to confirm suspicions that the film will be directed by Joe Johnston, who was the in the director’s seat for the third Jurassic Park film. Johnston also recently revealed what is being discussed for Jurassic Park 4 in an interview with Screen Rant.

The most important thing I can tell you is that (Jurassic Park 4) starts a new trilogy that will go off in a different direction — a completely different direction that is very exciting, and different from anything we’ve seen. It starts with the history of the first trilogy, but it spins it off in a completely different direction. That’s all I can tell you.

Whether Spielberg is directing or not, I’m still on board for another Jurassic Park film. And the reboot-like idea that Johnston brought up seems like a great angle for a fresher franchise.
