Between all of the trailers, stills and clips released as part of Paramount’s marketing hoopla for Terminator: Genisys, one question still remains: Who exactly is Matt Smith playing? When the former Doctor Who joined the cast last year, his announcement included one brief description that told us he would step into the shoes of “a new character with a strong connection to John Connor.”
For the rebooted prequel, Connor is played by Jason Clarke, his mother Sarah by Emilia Clarke, Kyle Reese by Jai Courtney and the iconic T-800 by Arnold Schwarzenegger. So far the main players have all been identified with the exception of Smith, whose role has been kept under wraps. Until very recently that is, as an audience member who attended an advance screening of the movie in Arizona dropped a major scoop to the folks at Latino Review.
If you wish to remain completely unblemished by online rumor, speculation and heresay, we recommend checking out the new stills in the gallery below, but beyond that point lies SPOILERS!

Co-starring Byung-hun Lee and Dayo Okeniyi, Terminator: Genisys will open in theaters in 2D, 3D, IMAX and IMAX 3D on July 1st.
The beginning of Terminator: Genisys, the first of three planned films that Paramount hopes will relaunch the beloved sci-fi franchise, is set in 2029, when the Future War is raging and a group of human rebels has the evil artificial-intelligence system Skynet on the ropes. John Connor (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ Jason Clarke) is the leader of the resistance, and Kyle Reese (Divergent‘s Jai Courtney) is his loyal soldier, raised in the ruins of post apocalyptic California. As in the original film, Connor sends Reese back to 1984 to save Connor’s mother, Sarah (Game of Thrones‘ Emilia Clarke), from a Terminator programmed to kill her so that she won’t ever give birth to John. But what Reese finds on the other side is nothing like he expected.
