Stranger Things fans have been binging season 3 over and over again for the past month, but Millie Bobby Brown has already moved on to her next project. She’s starring in the title role of Enola Holmes, in which she plays the teen sister of a certain famous detective with the same surname.
The project’s been in the works for a while, but it seems filming is now officially underway as Brown has shared the first look at herself in character on her Instagram. “I love you Enola,” wrote the actress, while also posting a selfie showing off her new Enola hairdo.
Based on the novels by Nancy Springer, Enola Holmes follows the girl’s own investigations into the crimes of Victorian London, much like her more famous brother. Sherlock himself will appear in the movie, too, as portrayed by The Witcher‘s Henry Cavill. Elsewhere, Helena Bonham Carter plays their mother Eudoria Holmes, while Sherlock’s most recognizable sibling, Mycroft, will likewise feature, with The Hunger Games‘ Sam Claflin filling the role.
Killing Eve director Harry Bradbeer is helming the adaptation, based on a script from Jack Thorne (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child). As Springer wrote six books, it’s currently unclear if Enola Holmes is expected to kick off a franchise, but given the caliber of talent they’re plying into the film, it’s possible that Legendary are at least keeping an eye on sequel potential here.
After the blaze of Sherlock Holmes content we had in the early part of this decade, things had cooled off a bit lately – what with BBC’s Sherlock going on hiatus – but this project might help kick the craze off again. After all, Robert Downey Jr. is set to return to the role for Sherlock Holmes 3, coming in 2021.
As for Enola Holmes, it doesn’t yet have a release date, but you don’t have to be one of the Holmes family to deduce that it’ll probably be with us sometime in 2020.
