10 Scenes You Need To See In Suicide Squad’s Extended Cut

After months and months of growing hype, Suicide Squad finally arrived in August and was met with... critical derision and widespread disappointment from fans. Instead of the super-fun spectacle that the trailers promised, the movie was a muddled hot mess. There just seemed to be too many key story and character beats missing for it to work. Something which was proven to be true when it was revealed that Suicide Squad had been entirely recut late in the day. Oh well, fans thought, at least we have the Extended Cut to save the movie, right?

The biggest single addition to the extended cut is the motorcycle chase sequence between The Joker and Harley, a flashback to just after he escapes from Arkham. Anyone who wanted to see a more antagonistic relationship between the two characters in Suicide Squad will no doubt be pleased with this footage.

In an impressive gymnastic feat, Harley (or rather Dr. Quinzel) blocks The Joker’s way with her motorcycle. She pleads with him to accept that she loves him as she has “passed every test, every trial, every initiation.” The Joker responds that he cannot as he’s “not someone who is loved” because he’s not a person, he’s “an idea, a state of mind.” They’re then interrupted by a truck driver. Perhaps to prove how far she’ll go for him, Harley shoots the man dead and pulls the gun on Joker. Though he taunts her to pull the trigger, she can’t.

When you think about it, there are a couple of possible reasons why they decided to cut this scene. For one, this is the only time we see Harley kill an innocent individual, so this might have been removed to keep her as a sympathetic character. Also, it’s difficult to match this Joker up with the one who later seems to adore Harley. Just what changed his mind?
