10 Scenes You Need To See In Suicide Squad’s Extended Cut

After months and months of growing hype, Suicide Squad finally arrived in August and was met with... critical derision and widespread disappointment from fans. Instead of the super-fun spectacle that the trailers promised, the movie was a muddled hot mess. There just seemed to be too many key story and character beats missing for it to work. Something which was proven to be true when it was revealed that Suicide Squad had been entirely recut late in the day. Oh well, fans thought, at least we have the Extended Cut to save the movie, right?

Remember that bit in the theatrical version where Deadshot stares longingly at a mannequin of a young girl? Well, in the Extended Cut, this leads into a more significant scene between Floyd and Rick Flag.

Flag decides that he needs Deadshot’s leadership skills to keep the rest of Task Force X in line. In exchange for which, he promises to get Deadshot his money and his freedom, so that he can see his daughter again. Lawton doesn’t believe that Flag can go against Amanda Waller like this, but Flag convinces him to trust him.

When placed back in the narrative, this sequence explains and deepens several events that occur later on. For instance, when Waller is presumed dead, Deadshot reminds Flag that the two of them made a deal. Also, when it’s revealed that Flag has been retaining letters from Floyd’s daughter all this time, it comes as a more of a shock, seeing as the two have somewhat bonded.
