Long before Warner Bros. decided to move on from Henry Cavill’s Superman, the studio had hoped to secure the former Justice League star for a cameo role in Shazam!

Scheduling issues (read: Mission: Impossible – Fallout) put paid to that idea, and it seems that was the first domino to fall, ultimately leading us to the situation we’re at now where the DC Extended Universe is in need of a new Superman. And a new Batman, it seems, but that’s an article for another day.

Like we said before, the original plan was for Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel to swing by Shazam! for a cameo appearance, and if TheWrap scoopster Umberto Gonzalez is to be believed, it would’ve been oddly reminiscent to Nick Fury’s first ever role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe…

For what it’s worth, the Superman cameo in Shazam! was supposed to be Clark at the end of the movie meeting with Billy Batson, the kid who [turns into] Shazam, telling him ‘Hey, we’re gonna keep an eye on you,’ that kind of thing.

That fateful post-credits scene helped birth the MCU we know and love, though it’s unclear if Henry Cavill’s Superman planned to inform the young Billy Batson that he now belonged to a bigger universe – that being the fledgling DC Extended Universe. Alas, those plans have been scrapped altogether, so it remains to be seen whether David F. Sandberg and his team have included another post-credits scene in order to fill the void left by Kal-El.

Shazam! sees a release on April 5th, 2019 – long after Jason Momoa’s standalone Aquaman movie dives beneath the waves and introduces viewers to the weird and wonderful world of Atlantis.
