Zac Efron might not be what you’d call an Oscar caliber actor, but the former High School Musical star is definitely working hard lately to reinvent himself in Hollywood and become a bonafide leading man. In recent years, he’s delivered some impressive performances in films like Neighbors and its equally enjoyable sequel, among others. And while his movies aren’t always hits critically or commercially, he has shown real growth as an actor since first breaking onto the scene.
Now, after dabbling in R-rated humor and shenanigans, it looks like Efron is finally ready to try his hand at something a bit darker and more serious, as he’s all set to star in Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, Joe Berlinger’s psychological thriller about serial killer Ted Bundy. Based on the Black List script from Michael Werwie, production is now underway on the pic and to prove it, Efron’s been sharing a number of photos via social media.
This week, he’s done so again, and after giving us a glimpse behind the scenes just a few days ago, the actor’s now posted a shot of him filming something with Lily Collins, who’ll play Bundy’s girlfriend, Elizabeth Kloepfer. It doesn’t reveal a whole lot, but you can check it out in the gallery down below along with the others that Efron’s been sharing.
Described as being in the vein of Nightcrawler and The Jinx, the story in Extremely Wicked will actually be told through the perspective of Kloepfer – who eventually turned Bundy into the police. That’ll present an interesting point of view for us to explore Ted from and we’re excited to see how it all turns out in the end. With any luck, it’ll be a big hit and give Zac some more cred when it comes to heavy, dramatic roles.
We’ll be bringing you further updates on Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile as it continues to carry on through its production, but in the meantime, tell us, are you excited to see Efron shifting gears here to play Ted Bundy? Let us know in the usual place.
