The saga continues. A few days ago, we reported on the righteous fury of fans over the leaked (though alleged) script of the Michael Bay-produced and rebooted Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film. Now you can add the original Turtles co-creator Peter Laird to the list of people who are not looking forward to this iteration of TMNT.

Laird’s reaction to the leaked script appeared on his personal blog, check out what he had to say below:

“I think the script that I read is so fundamentally flawed, and — more to the point — so NOT a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, that trying to make piecemeal changes to it in an effort to make it into something halfway decent is probably a fool’s errand.”

From what we’ve seen of the script online, there’s very little rhyme or reason behind some of the changes that Bay and Co. have made to the original conceit. Why turn the Turtles into aliens? Why turn Casey Jones and April O’Neil into teenagers? Why change Shredder to Schrader? In fact, it all begins a little too much like a slightly mutated version of Transformers.

At the end of the day, of course, there’s nothing to say that the rebooted TMNT won’t work. Filming has been delayed, though the reasons behind it are murky. Perhaps a better, more cohesive script will be forthcoming. I personally would not bet on the film being even halfway decent though. They’ve already dropped the words ‘Teenage Mutant’ from the title and to be honest, it wouldn’t surprise me if they drop the ‘Ninja Turtles’ too.

We’ll get the joy of seeing the reboot May 16, 2014. Until then though, we’ll keep you posted on any further updates.
