Christopher Nolan’s Tenet has only been shooting for a couple of weeks, but already the first set photos from the hugely-anticipated movie have found their way online. The brief synopsis released tantalizingly describes it as “an action epic evolving from the world of international espionage,” and fans will no doubt spend countless hours dissecting every piece of information that comes from the typically-secretive filmmaker.
Having spent years distancing himself from rumors linking him to the James Bond franchise, of which he is admittedly a huge fan, perhaps Tenet will see Nolan finally scratch that itch to make an expansive, big-budget spy movie. Several scenes in Inception were clearly inspired by the director’s love of 007, but this could take things to another level entirely.
One of the biggest and most consistent directors in Hollywood, each of his new projects generates huge amounts of interest and Tenet will be no different. The $225 million blockbuster will be another globe-trotting adventure, with filming set to take place in seven countries including Estonia, the United Kingdom, India and Italy.
This is Nolan’s first time behind the camera since the critically-acclaimed Dunkirk, which became the most successful World War II movie in history after earning $526.9 million at the box office and receiving eight Academy Award nominations including Best Picture and Best Director, winning three for Best Film Editing, Best Sound Editing and Best Sound Mixing.
In a convenient piece of synergy for the director behind the Dark Knight Trilogy, the cast of Tenet is led by freshly-cast Batman Robert Pattinson, alongside recent Academy Award nominee John David Washington, Elizabeth Debicki, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Clemence Poesy, Kenneth Branagh and of course, Nolan’s ‘good luck charm’ Michael Caine, who’s worked with the director on every one of his movies since Batman Begins.
