Jodie Foster unleashes the Money Monster in a series of new clips for the actor-director’s upcoming financial thriller.
Thrusting George Clooney into the role of well-to-do TV personality and Wall Street mogul Lee Gates, the snippets are essentially lifted from in and around the same portion of the movie, where Clooney’s charismatic loudmouth is being held hostage by a man burned by the corporate greed that run amok in Wall Street during 2008 and beyond.
Cut from the same cloth as the likes of The Big Short and, to a lesser extent, 99 Homes, Money Monster is proof that financial thrillers continue to attract the big names in Hollywood, even if we can’t help but feel that Foster’s taut thriller is releasing five years too late. For now, though, we’ll reserve judgement.
Clooney’s Money Monster will be joined by Julia Roberts, Jack O’Connell, Dominic West, Giancarlo Esposito and Caitriona Balfe.
Money Monster is expect to host its worldwide premiere during the Cannes Film Festival in May – continuing Foster’s love affair with the ceremony after The Beaver in 2011 – ahead of a theatrical release on May 13.
In the real-time, high stakes thriller Money Monster, George Clooney and Julia Roberts star as financial TV host Lee Gates and his producer Patty, who are put in an explosive situation when an irate investor who has lost everything (Jack O’Connell) forcefully takes over their studio. During a tense standoff broadcast to millions on live TV, Lee and Patty must work furiously against the clock to unravel the mystery behind a conspiracy at the heart of today’s fast-paced, high-tech global markets.
