Terminator 2: Judgement Day Is Getting The 3D Treatment

THR is reporting that James Cameron, along with DMG Entertainment and Studiocanal, will be re-releasing Terminator 2: Judgement Day in digitally remastered 3D next year. While I don't think anyone was particularly asking for this, especially after the abysmal Terminator: Genisys made a lot of people lose interest in the series, it will still be nice to see the groundbreaking sequel hit theatres again looking all shiny and polished.

THR is reporting that James Cameron, along with DMG Entertainment and Studiocanal, will be re-releasing Terminator 2: Judgement Day in digitally remastered 3D next year.

While I don’t think anyone was particularly asking for this, especially after the abysmal Terminator: Genisys made a lot of people lose interest in the series, it will still be nice to see the groundbreaking sequel hit theatres again looking all shiny and polished. Especially for those who were too young to see it when it originally released.

Then again, it’s not like the film was shot with 3D in mind, so how much of a difference this actually makes remains to be seen. Sure, some parts of Judgement Day would lend themselves well to the format, but most likely, this is probably just a chance to cash in on the 25th anniversary of the movie, and maybe to apologize for Genisys.

In a press release announcing the news, Cameron talks about why now is the perfect time to bring back his sci-fi classic:

Next year marks the 25th anniversary of Terminator 2 and that seemed like the perfect time to bring it back but this time in an all-new 3D version. If you’ve never seen it, this’ll be the version you want to see and remember.

DMG CEO Dan Mintz added to Cameron’s statement, saying:

For a whole new generation of fans, it is truly a chance to see the movie that really set the bar for action and effects that all the movies today are trying to top, in a completely new way — in the theater and in 3D. We are committed to making the conversion the highest quality in order to live up to the expectations of the film’s many fans around the world.

No release date has been set yet for Terminator 2: Judgement Day 3D, but as always, we’ll keep you posted when we hear more. Until then, though, tell us, do you care to see the movie again in 3D?
