Even though we finally received the first trailer for Avengers: Infinity War a couple months back, it stands to reason that each and every one of us are dying to see more teasers before the big team-up flick storms cinemas. Of course, we’re likely to see another full trailer or two before opening weekend arrives, but the interim is starting to heat up, with a Marvel Cinematic Universe recap video and international trailer surfacing just last week.
Naturally, Infinity War already has the built-in appeal that accompanies any superhero mashup, but what likely helped in making this one of the most anticipated films of 2018 is that it’s the culmination of everything Kevin Feige and company have built since the first Iron Man debuted back in 2008. That’s right, it’s been a ten-year journey, and that’s but one thing that makes this experience so special.
Speaking of which, one element that’s giving this flick a real sense of payoff is that Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will finally collide with Thanos, the ultimate big bad of the MCU that’s been teased since the unforgettable mid-credits scene in 2012’s The Avengers. In the time since, we’ve seen him rear his head here and there in a few movies, but it’s not until this spring that he reveals his endgame.
As it so happens, the latest goodie that we’ve been alluding to centers on the Mad Titan himself, and comes in the form of promo art (see below) that’s begun making its rounds over on Reddit. While it’s unclear where it originates from, one should start keeping their eyes peeled for action figures, posters, lunchboxes and other various sorts of paraphernalia that it may adorn.
Though not terribly revealing, it’s another welcome look at the big bad, who’s been described as an “incredible threat” by Joe Russo. The director recently reaffirmed his desire to create a Darth Vader-like villain that will inspire (and terrify!) the next generation, saying:
Darth Vader was the pre-eminent villain of my childhood, and we’re hoping to make a Darth Vader for a new generation. We’re hoping he has that complexity to him, and that he strikes fear into the heart of the audience, but at the same time they go on a journey with him. Frankly, Avengers 3 is his movie.
Avengers: Infinity War arrives in theaters on May 4th, while its currently untitled sequel, Avengers 4, will follow one year later, on May 3rd, 2019.
