Rumors are abound that suggest we could be in for a terrifying treat in The Batman 2 as horror icon Bill Skarsgård is rumored to be joining a DC project.
The rumors come from movie scooper @TheInSneider who claims that Skarsgård is being eyed for a role in a DC film, and one that definitely not The Brave and The Bold (potentially directed by his former It director Andy Muschietti). That leaves many wondering if the reported role could be outside of the DCU, perhaps as a part of Matt Reeves Batman universe.
Well, fans took the idea and ran with it, as already many think they’ve cracked what character Skarsgård is bound to play. After all, when you think about it, there is only one Batman villain that perfectly fits the actor’s previous work.
That’s right, fans want to see the John Wick: Chapter 4 actor portray the new live action Scarecrow. The villain uses a toxin to make his victims hallucinate their worst fear, which kind of sounds like another iconic horror villain also played by Skarsgård. The actor’s performance as Pennywise in the aforementioned It has to be one of the greatest stand out horror performances in recent times. Who else would be better suited to playing Scarecrow?
Still, some had their doubts; after all, Pennywise is a clown, so why not cast him as the clown prince of crime, the Joker himself?
“hear me out JOKER”
Well, to be fair, we do already have a Joker in Matt Reeves’ Batman, and he’s played by Barry Keoghan, a very talented actor who will no doubt continue to make the role his own. It’s also just too similar a character. Just because Skarsgård played a scary clown once, that doesn’t mean he should automatically be every scary clown in film from now on.
Others are tired of seeing the same handful of villains picked for the live action treatment time and time again.
“Scarecrow again?”
“Gimme never before adapted on screen villains, bruv.”
Although Scarecrow doesn’t quite get as much love as some of the others, he has already featured on the big screen in all three installments of Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, as brought to live by Cillain Murphy. That was a much more tame version of the character though, so seeing an actually scary rendition of the character played by an actor who we know can bring the fear would be perfect for The Batman sequel.
It’s important to bear in mind that these are just rumors, as a couple of months ago the word on the street was that Clayface would be the central villain for The Batman 2. If that’s the case, it’s doubtful we’d see another major villain making an appearance, especially when the Joker is there as well.
