United by blood but widely different in life, Mark Strong and Sacha Baron Cohen star as two very different brothers in the riotous first trailer for Louis Letterier’s spy comedy, The Brothers Grimsby.
Opening with an introduction to Strong’s tough-as-nails secret operative, who blasts through just about anyone and anything in his way with no mercy, the clip does a solid job of establishing the pair, who are all but binary opposites to one another. There’s even a sequence that utilizes a video game-esque first-person shot, placing you in the thick of the action as Strong’s British spy dispatches all manner of crooks and baddies.
It’s a rip-roaring chain of events that culminates in the reveal of Sacha Baron Cohen’s sibling, a laid-back passenger who doesn’t bat an eyelid when it comes to scrapping by. Then again, the stint doesn’t really stick when compared to the, ahem, Strong opening, and considering that Baron Cohen hasn’t made an appearance on the big screen since The Dictator in 2012, it remains to be seen whether the comedian has the same pull as he did during his Borat heyday.
With Letterier (Now You See Me, The Incredible Hulk) behind the lens, The Brothers Grimsby may very well redeem itself on the dynamic between Strong and Cohen’s leading pair, though it can’t hinge on that comedic interplay for the entire feature. Rebel Wilson, Penelope Cruz, Isla Fisher, Gabourey Sidibe, Annabelle Wallis, and Ian McShane complete the cast.
Mark Strong and Sacha Baron Cohen will discover a matter of family when The Brothers Grimsby opens in theaters on March 4, 2016.
