Dunkirk isn’t the only summer tentpole poised to showcase its wares in the coming days – Trailer Track is reporting that the first official trailer for The Dark Tower is rated and in the can, and it’ll likely be with us by the end of the week.
Citing a post from Deluxe Digital Cinema, the outlet goes on to name-drop the impending U.S. release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and all signs point to Sony attaching said promo to James Gunn’s spacefaring sequel in a few days’ time. Bear in mind that there’s a slight chance the footage could creep online in the days leading up to May 5th – lest we forget the moment late last year when an unfinished cut of The Dark Tower‘s trailer escaped the confines of Sony’s firewall and leaked onto the web – but we’ll be keeping you right up-to-date one way or the other.
Out of all the many, many Stephen King adaptations brewing in development – It, The Mist, The Stand…you name it – The Dark Tower is arguably the most ambitious of them all. Not only are there plans in place for a spinoff TV series, but the fact that Nikolaj Arcel’s live-action adaptation is pitched as more of a sequel to King’s magnum opus, as opposed to a one-to-one interpretation of The Dark Tower saga, has placed fans on red alert. Oh, and there’s also the small matter of the film’s cast, one headed up by Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey as Roland Deschain (AKA The Gunslinger) and the elusive Man in Black, respectively.
Nikolaj Arcel will cordially invite moviegoers to join Roland Deschain on his harrowing quest to reach The Dark Tower on August 4th. Excitement for the big-screen adaptation is through the roof – no thanks to the multiple delays – but only time will tell whether Arcel’s interpretation can live up to lofty expectations.
