To add to the slew of materials, Empire has rolled out nine exclusive covers linked to its X-Men-centric issue. The collectibles feature a mix of good mutants – Professor X’s assembly of X-Men – and bad mutants – Apocalypse’s pack of villainous lackeys. As expected, they’re all striking the most bad-ass poses possible.
What’s most interesting about the images, however, are the pairings. It’s not hard to see why Raven appears next to Quicksilver, as they’re fighting on the same team and can be seen together in the trailers, but what about Moira MacTaggert and the kill-happy Psylocke? Who knows, perhaps it’s just a matter of who looks good together in artwork, but let’s hope it doesn’t mean the X-Men’s human pal might face off with Olivia Munn’s ninja mutant.
Joining the mutant fight in Professor X’s camp are Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, Kodi Smit-McPhee and Lana Condor. They now battle alongside returning cast members James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult and Evan Peters. Find out how they fare when the closing chapter of the mutant prequel trilogy, X-Men: Apocalypse opens on May 27.
“Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshipped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.”
